Last night, my boyfriend planned a surprise “date night”. We became tourists and went up to Times Square, where we ate at Olive Garden and then went to see the musical “Legally Blonde”. I am a true fan of the the movie (I am even quoted in my high school yearbook as saying it is my favorite) and was afraid that a musical would not impress me. Was I wrong! Never before have I enjoyed a musical or play so much. The creative team did such a good job that, even with knowing the storyline, I was surprised and entertained throughout the show. Small touches (such as the sorority sisters having a candle light and the dress of the Harvard students) showed that a lot of research had been used. Also, the set was fun and the actors worked seamless with the moving parts. After looking at the site www.legallyblondethemusical.com today, I found out that the man behind the beautiful set is David Rockwell, who has done the interiors of several other places that I love (such as W Hotel in Union Square). I didn’t think anyone could replace Reese Witherspoon, but Laura Bell Bundy did a phenomenal job and made the character her own. And, there are two adorable dogs in the musical that stole my heart. I thought it was a great night to immerse myself in all thinks pink, girly, and blonde.
